Dark deity or sex goddess?

Lilith is a character from Jewish mythology that I used as the inspiration for this print series.

I was drawn to the idea of this fiery woman, who seemed dark and powerful - and hard to pin down. Is she a demon? A goddess? Just an independent woman ahead of her time?

Apparently Lilith was Adam’s first wife (as in Adam and Eve), but left him after she refused to become subservient to him and wouldn’t go back to the Garden of Eden after getting it on with the archangel Samuel (thanks Wikipedia!).

In Hebrew, lilith or lilit is translated as "night creatures", "night monster", "night hag", or "screech owl".
